Help with Getting Registered

What is Registration?

In Iowa, the process known as registration is used for family child care homes which are called Child Development Homes. Registration is a self-certification process, meaning that the child care provider certifies that he/she meets all the rules as stated in the Child Development Home Guidelines booklet. A criminal record check and a child abuse registry check are completed on the provider, any assistant, and anyone living in the home who is 14 years of age or older. By completing the process, the provider is demonstrating her/his desire to provide a safe environment for children.

What are the Benefits of Registration?

The State of Iowa Department of Human Services now requires anyone who provides care for more than five children to be registered. You will also be recognized in your community as someone who takes their job seriously. You may receive food program reimbursements, lowering the cost of feeding well-balanced and nutritious meals. Reimbursement rates from the State of Iowa may be HIGHER for a Registered provider. Parents will feel more confident in the care you provide because they know that you are required to meet the standards and guidelines set by registration.

How do I get Registered?

Call the Department of Human Services to receive a registration packet for child development homes. The phone number for the Johnson County office is 319-356-6050.
