Home Ties

If you are looking for a small center with a feel like home, Home Ties is your answer! Home Ties provides a warm, safe and nurturing environment for children to grow and learn. The center has been in operation since 1995, is licensed under the Department of Human Services and maintains low teacher-to-child ratios in accordance with the recommendations of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Home Ties is situated in the lower level of the First Mennonite Church, 405 Myrtle Avenue, Iowa City which provides easy access to UIHC, the UI Law School and the Iowa City downtown area. The center’s central location allows for fun walks to play in a local park, and to take our van on fieldtrips to other local parks, the Iowa City Public Library’s story time, and Tot-Time at Mercer Park in winter and the Splash Pad in summer. We are also fortunate to have a music teacher visit once a week, and librarians to visit and provide story-telling sessions.

At Home Ties we believe that in the first five years social-emotional development forms the foundation on which all future learning is built. A strong component of our program is therefore supporting the development of a secure base from which children can move out and explore their world, and the development of basic social skills that will support their later successful transition to school.
