Child & Adult Care Food Program
A state and federally funded Child Nutrition Program designed to provide nutritious meals and snacks served to infants, children, and adults.
4Cs is the local sponsor of the Child and Adult Care Food Program in Johnson, Clinton, and Cedar Counties. This federally funded program reimburses licensed child care providers for serving nutritious, balanced meals to children in their care. By doing so, CACFP supports both children’s health and the sustainability of home-based child care programs.
This program serves as an important financial resource for child care providers. On average, a family child care home serving six children can receive up to $4,500 annually in reimbursement, with no state matching funds required. These federal dollars help cover food costs, support food service labor, and stimulate local economies.
A Hidden Asset
Despite its benefits, many child care providers are unaware of CACFP. Nationally, only about half of eligible homes participate, leaving significant federal funding untapped. With each additional 1,200 children enrolled, up to $1 million in reimbursements can be directed into our communities.
